This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") governs your use of ValidMail's email verification services. By using our services, you agree to comply with this policy. Violations may result in suspension or termination of your account.
1. Permitted Use
ValidMail is designed for legitimate email verification purposes, including:
- Verifying email addresses collected through your website or application
- Cleaning existing email lists to improve deliverability
- Validating email addresses before adding them to mailing lists
- Reducing bounce rates and protecting sender reputation
- Preventing fake or invalid email registrations
- Ensuring compliance with email marketing best practices
2. Prohibited Activities
You may NOT use ValidMail for:
2.1 Spam and Unsolicited Email
- Verifying email addresses for the purpose of sending spam
- Building email lists for unsolicited commercial messages
- Verifying scraped or harvested email addresses without consent
- Supporting any activity that violates CAN-SPAM, GDPR, CASL, or similar laws
2.2 Illegal Activities
- Any activity that violates local, state, national, or international laws
- Fraud, phishing, or social engineering schemes
- Identity theft or impersonation
- Distribution of malware or malicious content
- Money laundering or terrorist financing
2.3 Abuse of Service
- Attempting to bypass rate limits or usage restrictions
- Using automated tools to circumvent security measures
- Sharing API keys or account credentials with unauthorized parties
- Creating multiple accounts to evade restrictions or obtain free credits
- Reselling or redistributing our service without authorization
2.4 Technical Abuse
- Attempting to probe, scan, or test system vulnerabilities
- Interfering with or disrupting the service or network
- Reverse engineering, decompiling, or disassembling our software
- Accessing data not intended for you
- Attempting to gain unauthorized access to systems or accounts
2.5 Harmful Content
- Verifying emails associated with hate speech or harassment
- Supporting activities that harm minors
- Promoting violence or illegal activities
- Distributing adult content without proper consent and age verification
3. Email Collection Requirements
You must ensure that email addresses submitted for verification were collected legitimately:
- Consent: Email owners must have provided consent to receive communications from you
- Transparency: Users must be informed about how their email will be used
- Opt-out: You must provide a way for users to unsubscribe
- No scraping: Do not verify emails obtained through scraping or harvesting
- No purchased lists: Do not verify emails from purchased or rented lists without proper consent documentation
4. API Usage Guidelines
When using our API, you must:
- Keep your API keys confidential and secure
- Not exceed the rate limits of your subscription plan
- Implement proper error handling for API responses
- Not make requests from client-side code (browsers)
- Identify your application in the User-Agent header
- Not cache or store verification results beyond reasonable operational needs
5. Data Handling
When using our service, you are responsible for:
- Complying with applicable data protection laws (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)
- Obtaining necessary consents for data processing
- Protecting any data received from our service
- Not using verification results for discriminatory purposes
- Properly disposing of verification data when no longer needed
6. Reporting Violations
If you become aware of any violation of this AUP, please report it to us immediately:

- Include details about the violation and any supporting evidence
We take all reports seriously and will investigate promptly. Reporters' identities will be kept confidential.
7. Monitoring and Enforcement
We reserve the right to:
- Monitor usage patterns for signs of abuse
- Investigate suspected violations of this policy
- Take action against accounts that violate this policy
- Cooperate with law enforcement when required
8. Consequences of Violation
Violations of this AUP may result in:
- Warning: For minor or first-time violations
- Temporary suspension: Account access restricted pending review
- Permanent termination: Account closed without refund
- Legal action: In cases of serious violations
The severity of consequences depends on the nature and frequency of violations. We may terminate accounts immediately for severe violations without warning.
9. Appeals
If you believe your account was suspended or terminated in error, you may appeal by:
- Emailing appeals@validmail.io within 14 days of the action
- Providing a detailed explanation of why you believe the decision was incorrect
- Including any relevant documentation or evidence
Appeals will be reviewed within 5 business days, and you will be notified of the outcome.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Acceptable Use Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or through our service. Continued use of our service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
